I had a nice time last Night at Dub Smugglers. I had burned a cdr of 4 of my tunes to give to Joe Nice. Austin Speed was nice enough to introduce me when Joe was standing outside the venue, so I promptly pressed the cd in to his hand as soon as we had shaken hands. He pocketed the disc and promised to give it a listen when he got home. Sorted. Joe was listening to his I-Pod, to "get in that right mood" and I didn't want to bug him, so I hung around with friends outside for a bit. Soon Joe was finished with the I-Pod and before long he was talking and joking with me and a few others who were there.
When he took the decks around 12.30 his good humor didn't stop.I had made my way up to the front because, well... I was planning on "Trainspotting" the dubs.I mentioned this to Misk, apparently Joe has really good hearing or maybe I was being pretty blatant about it because right away he said something like "Trainspot all you want, you got tricks... I got tricks too" and he hid the label on the first dub with a small towel. He also made a show of hiding the titles with his hand. I soon discovered that he was joking around about hiding the titles of the dubs. He told me and Misk Id's of several of the tunes during the course of the set. He was very animated behind the decks, pulling faces and just generally having a good time behind the decks but he was always on point in the mixing department. Did I mention dubs, of course he had plenty of them, many were very fresh (scholars, please correct me if I mis-ID any of these and feel free to comment any ones I missed getting the ID on) "Yes We Can" with the big Obama sample (who made that tune ? ... anyone...) lots of new tunes by Skream ("Memories of 3rd Base", "Metallic", "Burning Up"), Mala ("Eyes","DMZ vs ZMD") Digital Mystikz (not too sure about the title, but the sounds sounded like the same ones used on "Blue Notez" the dub said "MOM" on it, what was that tune... the one with the big drum roll on it.) a big remix of "Knowledge" that everyone loved (ID anyone?)Truth ("Fatman", "Stolen Children" and "Wednesday")and plenty more including one by Kromestar that I really wanted to hear but didn't get played because, well, all good things must come to an end and that one just didn't make it under the wire. Vibes were very nice on the evening and everyone seemed to really be feeling the selections.sddubstep.com was there and took a few photos, so be checking for those.Respect to Subliminal for a quality production. Big up the staff and management at the Kava Lounge. And of course, maximum big ups to the Dubstep Ambassador Joe Nice, you are a gentleman and a scholar and there's damn few of us left.

P-Man!!! You're the best! Glad you could finally meet Joe!
Thanks for the comment Ivy. It was nice meeting Joe, now I know why he's called Joe Nice, he's nice on decks and also a very nice guy. I've been kind of a homebody for a while so it was good getting out and about.
You are a worthy critic mr. P Man, but I have to say for all the trainspotting, you didnt even call out my personal highlight favorite track of the night "BLOOD & FIRE" ... I cant reveal who produced it but it hadnt even been heard anywhere else before that night :-D :-D ... a bonus hint though, same producer as the "YES WE CAN" track ... Also the track you were wondering about is MDM not MOM ... 10 bucks says you cant guess what MDM stands for ^_^ ...
Final thought... it KILLED me not hearing the THRONE track from KROMESTAR... I was willing to risk fines, police, hell and high water to hear that ... but the venue owners were more than gracious all night and I had to respect them
PMan -- thanks for the good words brother. Much appreciated.
Few things:
1. MDM = Mountain Dread March. Mala on the buttons.
2. DMZ vs MZN. Another Mala tune.
3. The Kromestar tune. It's a dancehall tune @ 140. I wish i had a chance to play it. It would have gone off !
trust me.....
Sublmnl, thanks for reminding me about "Blood and Fire" I couldn't remember the title (I guess I should start bringing a little notepad, how dorky would that be). I was feeling that one too.
Joe, thanks for the clarifications on the tune IDs, and thanks again for coming to San Diego and playing your dubs.
